Gravity Forms Mailchimp Add-On - I don't want users to be subscribed to email marketing by default

Hi all, first time poster.

tl;dr - is it possible to submit entries to a Mailchimp audience and have those entries marked as ‘not subscribed’ to Email Marketing?

  1. A client uses Mailchimp to collect user Warranty registrations for their products. Users can sign up to the newsletter at the same time on the same form.

  2. At the moment every submission with Gravity Forms Mailchimp Add-On is leading to people being Subscribed.

  3. To counter this, I’ve tried enabling GDPR fields in the Mailchimp.com Dashboard and then using Conditional Logic back in Wordpress → Gravity Forms Mailchimp Add-On but when I check Mailchimp, the submission is still marked as Subscribed even if they choose “Subscribe To Newsletter - No”.

If I could stop seeing Subscribed in Mailchimp for these form submissions then I’d be able to sleep tonight!

Apologies in advance but I’m not sure if I should be solving this in the Mailchimp.com Dashboard or a setting in Gravity Forms Mailchimp Add-On. A nudge in the right direction would be fantastic and thanks to anyone for any clues!

Thanks again

Have you configured the feed conditional logic setting as well:

Thank you Richard. I’ve carefully read through that, and the Creating a Feed for the Mailchimp Add-On guide.

I might be confused. I don’t actually have multiple mailing lists or audiences within Mailchimp.

I wanted this form to just add everyone to the same audience with their details from the form and then the “Subscribe To Newsletter” field to directly control that column in Mailchimp headed “Email Marketing”.

I just seem to have a total blind spot in my knowledge for what controls that field in Mailchimp and how to set it to anything other than Subscribed.

Edit - I think I’ve worked out how to phrase the question I’m trying to ask…

“Email Marketing” appears in Mailchimp when I look at Manage Contacts but it isn’t in Mailchimp as a Merge Field… so how do I control it through gravity forms?

Hello. When you add a contact to your audience, they will automatically get the “Subscribed” status. They are subscribed when they submit your form. If they unsubscribe from your list using an unsubscribe link in one of your email messages, they are not removed from the list, but will be marked ‘unsubscribed’. When that happens, it looks like this:

Your question “how do you control it through Gravity Forms”? The Mailchimp feed sending the contact information to Mailchimp is what gives them the “Subscribed” status. You can unsubscribe them from your Mailchimp dashboard, or they can use an unsubscribe link in a communication you send to them.

Let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you.
