Wordpress /GF to Salesforce via Connected app

Hi All,
My client has many brands that operate under different URL’s so I need to connect their leads to Salesforce via a connected app, as per best practise (see image).
1.) can I connect this to Sandbox
2.) If I connect this via a new app, will it stop the current connection into Production via the standard API setup
