Checkboxes not displaying correctly

I am trying to add a checkbox to my gravity form. And works great until it tries to display the checkboxes; when I reopen the gravity form none of the checkboxes are “checked”. And I get an error in my common.php file in the plugin folder that says *PHP Notice: Array to string conversion in common.php.

I am wondering if there is a way around this or I am doing something wrong for checkboxes specifically. Radio buttons and other fields work fine, but not for checkboxes.]
