Is their any reason the NAME module does not have a field size selector?

Using the methodology provided here to resize NAME fields is cumbersome and time-consuming.

You can use the blue slider bar to the right of the field to resize it.
To submit a feature request, head over to the GF Roadmap and click the blue plus button at the bottom on the page.

All along, we thought the blue bar was simply a drop-in marker for other form fields.
It would be great if GF could add a note below “field settings” stating what you said:
“Slide the blue bar left or right to resize the field”
