Entries not deleting on cron basis

Hello

I set up Retention Policy for deleting after 3 years.
But I still have entries from early 2017.
Does it work even if form is turned off ? Does the deletion process use the wordpress update cron routine (because we turned it off)? Is that because we use Nested forms plugin with?
Because of that our form isn’t GDPR compliant, and in case of a control we would get a fine…
