Best Way to Track Google Ads Conversions in GTM with Ajax Enabled

We currently track our Gravity Forms submissions via Google Tag Manager, using the Submit button click as the trigger. This works well most of the time, and we’ve set it to track only one event per page, so if someone submits (or tries to submit) the form several times it will only track one conversion. However, if someone clicks the Submit button and the form fails validation, it will still track as a conversion if even they they leave the website.

Our forms are present in the footer of every page on the website, so we can’t use Page Path to validate the event. We need to use on the on-page Text confirmation message in order to get Enhanced Conversion Tracking data to show on the page, otherwise we’d just use ‘Thank You’ page tracking. We can’t use UTMs to pass data from one page to another as Facebook tracks this and it flags an alert with user data.

What’s the best way to track the form submissions without including false positives and while keeping our Enhanced Conversion Tracking data intact?
