Hey everyone,

I am working on a form where I want to pre populate fields with logged-in user data, such as name, email and phone number. I know Gravity Forms allows dynamic population but I am a bit confused about the best approach.

So far…, I have tried using the {user:user\_meta} merge tags but it doesn’t seem to pull the correct values. Should I be using a custom function with the gform\_field\_value filter instead: ?? If so, could someone share a simple snippet for fetching user details: ??

Also, will this method work across different user roles, or do I need to add extra conditions for admin, subscribers, etc.: ?? I have also read this thread [https://community.gravityforms.com/t/populate-fields-with-custom-post-data-resolved-](https://community.gravityforms.com/t/populate-fields-with-custom-post-data-resolved/3060)[ruby-on-rails](https://www.igmguru.com/digital-marketing-programming/ruby-on-rails-certification-training) but still looking for more tips and advice.

Any guidance or example code would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks in advance !!

With Regards,
Marcelo Salas

You should be able to use the [{user} merge tag](https://docs.gravityforms.com/user-merge-tag/).

For example, setting the default value of the email field as {user:user\_email} should populate the logged-in user’s email address.

This should work for all user roles.

What values are you getting?

Pre-populating user data can definitely make forms more user-friendly! 🎯 If {user:user\_meta} isn’t working as expected[,](https://balloonslane.com/staten-island-balloon/) using the `gform_field_value` filter could be a better approach.
